About us

Our Story

St George's walk is a very small independent charity that promotes and supports regular exercise in the great outdoors both for individuals and as a wider community.

Getting active on a regular basis and having space away from devices is really valuable for everyone's physical and mental health.

We share walking routes and advice for free, as well as operating structured led and supported walks during the year, bringing people together to experience the great outdoors and meet people who share the same passion.

The first major walk was in 2021 along the coastal path around the Gower peninsular in South Wales and we've kept on walking ever since then.

Rich Bond

Founder & Chair

Rich founded SGW in 2021, to encourage everyone to get out, get walking and enjoy the benefits it brings. When not walking he works as a Consultant in the hospitality industry - keenly aware that a good walk is often followed by a decent meal and great pint!

Tina Palmer

Trustee

Tina has know Rich since their scouting days, and wants everyone to know that the Malvern Hills are well worth a visit. When she's not walking, doing yoga or listening to 'vintage' music, Tina works in the charity sector supporting communities through a variety of projects

Dave Hingley BEM

Trustee

Dave is generally found running and walking around Surrey and parts of London, never knowingly getting public transport when he can walk! He works in the Culture Sector, largely supporting visitor experience teams, so is keen that everyone taking part in SGW is well looked after!

Our charitable status Our aims

As a registered charity alongside walking for good, we raised some funds for others too

If you are a small charity we make a number of donations to organisations in areas we have walked. Applications have closed for 2024 but we are always happy to have expressions of interest.

This year we donated £1500 each to Children in Need, Help for Heroes, The Scout Association and the R.N.L.I.

Small grants of up to £200 were also distributed to 5 different charities in the area of the big annual walk.
